Wanda Jones

Wanda Lucille Jones, 81, slipped peacefully into eternal l i f e , Friday, December 2, 2022, Cedar Hollow in Denison.

Wanda was born December 28,1940 in Denton TX; the daughter of Joe and Ruth (Bailey) Grissom. She graduated from Denton High School in 1958. She married the love of her life, Henry Jones, on January 27, 1962, in Durant, Oklahoma. Later, she graduated from cosmetology school and worked as a beautician and hairdresser all her life owning her own beauty salon “The Hair Klip” in Denison until her retirement in 1989.

She moved to St Louis, MO for four years from 1990 1994 when her husband’s job transferred him with the railroad but moved back home to Texas as quickly as they could after his retirement. They were not fans of “up North” as they called it and were glad to be back home on their 21 acres.

Wanda was good at taking care of her family. She loved to cook and was one of the best. She enjoyed her gardening and plants and could make anything grow! Her yard was amazing, and she had a flare for landscaping. She and Henry enjoyed horse racing, professional bull riding, rodeo, horses, and cattle and just being together.

Wanda and Henry had one daughter, Marla Hooker. They also had one granddaughter who was their entire world, Alaina Hooker.

Her greatest joy was her granddaughter, and she never missed a dance, theater, cheer, or any other performance she was in. It did not matter where or when, she was there to see her perform. And… she thought Alaina was the best at whatever she did. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was there no matter what. If you needed her, she would make it happen.

She had a large family growing up and was certainly proud of all her seven brothers and sisters: Anna Winn of Bridgeport, Inez Hartsell of Bridgeport, Billy Grissom of Weatherford, George Grissom and Brenda of Weatherford, Gilbert Grissom and Rina of Aubrey, and Martha Coin of Denton. She also has many other wonderful cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Jones, parents, Joe and Ruth Grissom, and sister, Frances Ooten.

Funeral service for Wanda will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Fisher Funeral Home. Private interment will be held at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman. There is no set time for family visitation.
