Train derails in Denison

A train derailment closed portions of  South Perry Avenue Friday afternoon.

At about 3 p.m. Denison Police responded to a report of a derailed train near South Perry Avenue and West Crawford Street. First responders determined a trail hauling gravel left the track which caused other carts to also leave the track. As of Friday afternoon, officials estimated about 38 carts were involved in the derailment.

As of 4:30 p.m., the South Perry railroad crossing remained closed, but other crossings were clear and open, city officials said.

No injuries were reported in the derailment. City officials had no details regarding the cause of the derailment.
