Tax Office back open

After a two-week closure to install and take training on new software, the Grayson County Tax Office is scheduled to be back open. During the time period between May 20 and June 3, the Grayson County Tax Office was not accepting payments.

Throughout the closure staff across county tax offices were trained on how to use new processing software.

The notice was posted on the Tax Collector Accessor’s page of the Grayson County website, and Grayson County Tax Assessor Bruce Stidham talked about the announcement during a May meeting of the Grayson County commissioners.

“Our tax office will be temporarily closed as we transfer from our current tax collection software to our new software that we are very excited about,” Stidham said. “All Grayson County tax and motor vehicle offices will be closed Tuesday, May 20 for software training.”

Motor vehicle offices in Sherman, Denison, Van Alstyne and Whitesboro reopened Wednesday, May 21 for motor vehicle transactions only.

“The Grayson County Tax Office in Sherman will remain closed until June 3 to allow for the completion, transfer and conversion process plus additional software training,” Stidham said.

No payments will be able to be processed during that time.

“Now the Sherman tax office will reopen Tuesday, June 3,” he said. “All payments made that day will be credited as being effective and being paid on May 31. So, no one with a third quarter pay that is due by the 31st will be penalized because of that.

“All of our locations have lock boxes that will be outside of each of their offices. Those are checked every day. Just drop your payments in there, and they will be taken care of and credit to your account as of May 31.”
