By a big bipartisan vote of 310-107 on Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives has approved the Great American Outdoors Act, a landmark piece of conservation legislation that will allow for the allocating of funds necessary for much-needed repairs of infrastructure on public lands and funding of a variety of annual conservation projects. The final step for the GAOA legislation is the signature of President Donald Trump…As the first round of this weekend’s Bassmaster Elite Series event on the St. Lawrence River got underway on Thursday, Paul Mueller had the early lead on the BassTrakk Leaderboard at www.bassmaster.com . Clark Wendlandt of Cedar Park, Texas wasn’t far off the lead, sitting less than three-pounds behind Mueller in 4th place after a good Thursday morning of action…The Harris Chain of Lakes in Leesburg, Fla., will host two 2020 championship tournaments later this year. B.A.S.S. officials announced that college bass anglers will get to compete in the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series Championship from Oct. 29-31. And at the Bassmaster Team Championship and Classic Fish-Off from Dec. 9-12, anglers will get a chance to compete for a spot that gets an angler into the 2021 Bassmaster Classic at Lake Ray Roberts next spring …To see all of the new fishing gear from the virtual 2020 ICAST show, which wrapped up its online and TV run late last week, visit Game and Fish magazine (www.gameandfishmag.com ) and In-Fisherman magazine (www.in-fisherman.com) to see what’s new in fishing for 2020…What are the top boat names for 2020? According to the Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS), the No. 1 boat name in America right now is Serenity. That is followed by (2) Island Time, (3) Scout, (4) Pura Vida, and (5) Seas the Day to round out the “Top 5” list for this year... Following the recent Bassmaster Elite Series event at Lake Eufaula, where almost 2.8 million viewers watched four days of live-tournament coverage on ESPN2, the network has announced that it will televise more live on-the-water action from two upcoming Bassmaster tournaments…

Fishing Reports

At Lake Texoma, water is lightly stained; water temps are 84-87 degrees; and the lake is 1.59 high. TPWD says that striped bass and white bass are good on live bait and topwater baits when fish are near the surface. Diving birds are marking feeding schools on the surface throughout the lake. Use sonar to mark schools along the river channel and flats. Largemouth bass are good fishing jigs, plastic worms and crankbaits in 8-24’ of water. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs by boathouses, marinas and brush piles in 15-25’…At Lake Ray Roberts, site of the 2021 Bassmaster Classic, water is lightly stained; water temp is 85 degrees; and the lake is 0.12 low. TPWD says that largemouth bass are good on green plastic worms, diving crankbaits, and Chatterbaits in 16-26’ of water near submerged timber, points, and channel ledges. White bass are excellent in 20-40’ of water on slabs and jigging spoons fished near main lake flats, ledges, and drop-offs. Crappie are good on jigs and minnows around bridges, standing timber and brush piles…At Lake Fork, water is lightly stained; water temps are 85-89 degrees; and the lake is 0.52 low. TPWD says that largemouth bass are good on blue, purple and dark green plastic worms, bladed jigs and Chatterbaits fished near deep structure, points and humps in 14-28’ of water. There is also some topwater action early in the day. Crappie are good on jigs and minnows in 18-25’ of water in brush piles and standing timber…. As summer vacation season continues, on the Texas Gulf Coast at Freeport, TPWD reports that redfish and speckled trout can be found in the back bays around shell and marsh and are good on shrimp. Bull reds will start to ramp up over the next few weeks…At Port O'connor, speckled trout are good over the mid-bay structure and also by wading the shorelines. The Intercoastal Waterway, the south shoreline by Mitchell’s Cut, and the fishing pier are all great for redfish, trout, and flounder…At South Padre, TPWD reports that the Laguna Madre is a tried and true hot spot for speckled trout and redfish for anglers using shrimp or MirrOlures, topwater plugs, or soft-plastic tails. Spanish mackerel have been excellent for anglers using fast-moving spoons and jigs, especially when a clear, clean tide moves against the sand…
