Football Roundup — Holliday tops Bells; Tioga gets shut out
HOLLIDAY — Brock Baker had 22 carries for 154 yards and two touchdowns but Bells fell behind early in a 34-21 loss against Holliday to close out non-district action.
Bo Baker added 13 carries for 117 yards, Grady Waldrip ran 18 times for 88 yards and Blake Rolen chipped in a TD run for Bells (3-1), which opens District 8-3A (II) play by hosting Leonard on Friday night.
Austin Jones led Holliday (3-1) with 12 carries for 106 yards and a touchdown, Crae Jackson added eight carries for 64 yards and a score and Peyton Marchand had a pair of TD runs.
Holliday scored on its first five possessions en route to a 21-o half-time lead and a 34-7 advantage heading to the fourth quarter, where Brock Baker had both of his TD runs.
The teams combined for 716 yards and all but 17 of it came on the ground as both gained more than 300 yards rushing.
Bells had a nine-game winning streak during the regular season snapped, the longest by the program since 1998.
Rio Vista 62, Tioga 0
In Rio Vista, the Bulldogs finished non-district action with a shutout loss against Rio Vista.
Tioga (1-3), which had seven turnovers, will start District 5-2A (I) action at Trenton on Friday.
Taylor Pritchett ran for two touchdowns, threw a TD pass and returned an interception for a score to lead Rio Vista (4-0), which opened a season with four victories for the first time since 1994.
Tom Bean at Quinlan Boles, cancelled
The Tomcats did not have a game on Week 4 after their match-up with Quinlan Boles was cancelled due to a positive COVID-19 test at Boles.
Tom Bean (1-2) was unable to find a replacement on the schedule and will go into District 5-2A (I) action on Friday at Alvord.
The Tomcats had added Boles the prior week when Como-Pickton cancelled on Tom Bean because 6-2A (I) moved up the start of district contests by a week.
