Good Morning: Sharing a love of cinema
Over the past few years, I’ve taken to steps to expand my horizons when it comes to things like cooking, hobbies and my love of good cinema. However, I’ve found myself in a new position as I am helping others do the same.
In previous Good Mornings, columns I’ve written about my desire to expand my scope and knowledge when it comes to movies and cinema. I’ve asked friends who know me to suggest movies they think I would enjoy, and gone out to view classic movies with a couple cinema groups in the area over the past year.
Now, I have found myself where I am able to share films that I love with those with a similar interest. The feeling is a bit odd, to be honest.
This came up this week when I a group of friends and I got together online for our weekly movie group. Each week, one of us will suggest a movie to watch and the rest of us will watch it at the same time on our end while chatting with each other. Think of it almost like a book club, in a way.
This was the second time I’ve been able to choose the movie of the week. For my first choice, I chose something that I felt almost everyone would enjoy. However, for this week’s pick, I chose a much more obscure foreign film that I knew none of the others had heard of, yet alone seen.
Yet, it is easily one of my favorite films of all time, and one I wanted to share with people, and there I was given that chance.
With our normal movies, we tend to be fairly relaxed and crack jokes at the movies. Not all of our choices have been notably good movies, and there is always room for a joke here or there.
However, during my movie no one said a word for almost the entire movie. After taking things in, they said there really wasn’t room for jokes as they found themselves engrossed in the story.
So, I ask what are the movies you would like to share with the world? As always, I have an open mind and a bucket of popcorn at the ready.
