Austin College football players Delmas Hoye and Shane Hodge have been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, for their efforts in a win over Howard Payne.

Hoye, a sophomore cornerback from Gladewater, made the game-changing play in the comeback victory. HPU had first- and-goal from the four when Hoye picked off his second pass of the day and raced 75 yards to set up what would prove to be the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Hoye finished with six tackles and the first two interceptions of his career.

Hodge, a senior cornerback from Perryton, blocked a last second, 45-yard field goal attempt by Howard Payne to secure the 19-16 victory. This marks the second straight week that Austin College has gotten a blocked field goal, as well as the second straight week that a ‘Roo has been named the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Hodge also had two tackles and an interception from his position in the secondary.
