MCKINNEY — Katie Webb scored 10 points for Melissa but Frisco Lone Star defeated the Lady Cardinals, 42-34, in a Class 3A Region II area round game at McKinney North on Thursday night.

Krista Butterfield chipped in six points while Keonni Conkle and Whitney Taylor each had five points for Melissa (25-4), which cut the lead to 34-33 with 1:11 left.

The Lady Cardinals, who made just 1-of-18 three-pointers trailed at the end of the third quarters but took a 30-29 advantage with 3:30 remaining, Melissa’s last lead of the night.

Zoie Miller scored 15 points for Frisco Lone Star (21-9), which will face either district rival Celina or Wilmer-Hutchins in the region quarterfinal next week.

Class 2A Region II

Brock 52, Gunter 49

FORT WORTH — Five-time defending state champion Brock held off a late Lady Tiger charge in a Class 2A Region II area round game at Saginaw Chisholm Trail on Thursday night.

Gunter (24-8) was down by nine with 3:30 remaining before scoring scoring five straight points for the next two minutes.

The Lady Tigers led, 13-9, after the first quarter and were up by eight in the middle of the second before Brock cut the deficit to two at half-time.

Brock will face either Grandview or Farmersville in the region quarterfinals next week.

Texoma Christan 43, Sacred Heart 35

GAINESVILLE — Hannah Bentsen had 13 points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals as Texoma Christian earned the district’s top seed with a tie-breaker victory over Muenster Sacred Heart on Thursday night at North Central Texas College.

Haylie Ross added 12 points and eight rebounds, Kiersten Goff scored nine points and Tori Powers chipped in three points, six rebounds and three steals for Texoma Christian (22-6), which will have a first-round bye before hosting an area-round game later next week.

The Lady Eagles trailed by five points at half-time before pulling even at 38 after three quarters.
