SADLER — As S&S saw an improvement in the standings, Willie Winborne played as big a role as any Ram in the program’s unprecedented success.

On offense he was the focal point of a potent run attack, finishing with 2,404 yards and 30 touchdowns on 269 carries, displaying a punishing running style that proved to be elusive at the same time.

On defense he posted 78 tackles (40 solo), a pair of sacks and a fumble recovery at middle linebacker.

Add it all up and the Rams went on to finish 12-1, claiming the 7-2A (II) title and make the region semifinals before losing to state semifinalist and district foe Leonard.

The win total, district title and playoff run were the best in school history.

For his career, Winborne finished with with 4,397 yards and 52 touchdowns on 525 carries in three seasons.

Winborne was the District 7-2A (II) Most Valuable Player and selected as an honorable mention all-state choice before being named the Herald Democrat All-Texomaland Class 1A-2A Most Valuable Player for the 2013 season.
