COMMERCE – Dr. Margo Harbison, who spent 11 seasons as the director of athletics and 24 total years in Texas A&M-Commerce athletics, passed away Tuesday.

Harbison first came to then-East Texas State in 1974 as the school’s coordinator of women’s athletics before moving into an associate athletic director role in 1985. She received her promotion to director of athletics in 1988 and held that seat until retiring on July 8, 1999.

"We are deeply saddened by the news of Dr. Harbison’s passing," director of athletics Ryan Ivey said. "Dr. Harbison is and will continue to be revered throughout Lion athletics. She provided a solid foundation to which we continue to build upon. All of us who associated with Lion athletics owe a great deal of gratitude for her efforts and dedication."

During her time at the helm of Lion athletics, she oversaw the transition from East Texas State University to Texas A&M-Commerce.
