Forrest L. Wood, founder of the iconic Ranger Boats brand and namesake of the FLW Tour, died last Saturday at the age of 87. He was buried this week near his Flippin, Ark. home…The Red River Fly Fishers will hold their monthly meeting and fly tying session next week on Tuesday, Feb. 4th. Fly tying starts at 6:00 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. Each gathering takes place at the Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital meeting room at 3601 North Calais Street in Sherman. Hunting Report


The 2019-20 duck seasons ended in slow fashion last weekend for many Texomaland duck hunters as few cold fronts arrived in January, failing to push late season mallards and other ducks into the area…Thorough scouting did give some area hunters some mallards, a pintail or two, gadwalls, wigeon, and ringnecks in the season’s final days…Recent Instagram posts showed some fine late season redhead drakes flying into a few local decoy spreads along with some pintails. That would seem to indicate that the late season migration is starting to shift back to the north…Hunting seasons are winding down in Texas and Oklahoma with regular goose seasons closing on both sides of the Red River in the first half of February. Also, pheasant season ends in the northwestern part of the Sooner State on Jan. 31 while the statewide quail season in Oklahoma ends on Feb. 15. In the Lone Star State, woodcock season ends on Jan. 31 while the statewide quail season ends in Texas on Feb. 23…


Fishing Reports


At Lake Texoma, water is stained; water temps are 48-50 degrees; and the lake is 0.32’ high. TPWD reports that striped bass are good using slabs, trolling the main lake, and using swimbaits, Flukes, and live bait over large schools in creeks and channels. Largemouth bass are good when fishing below 15-feet. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs fished by boathouses, submerged vegetation, and timber. Catfish are fair on live shrimp, cut bait, and minnows…At Lake Ray Roberts, water is stained; water temps are 51-52 degrees; and the lake is 1.45’ high. TPWD reports that largemouth bass are good on Carolina-rigged worms and lizards as anglers work deeper points. White bass are excellent on minnows. Crappie are slow on jigs and minnows…At Lake Fork, water is stained; water temps are 52-54 degrees; and the lake is 1.66’ low. TPWD reports that largemouth bass are fair to good on soft plastic slugs, worms, and Alabama Rigs fished on points, timber, and humps. Crappie are fair on jigs and minnows around any structure…
