GAINESVILLE — Carmen Ramirez for Sherman as the Lady Bearcats finished the Gainesville Tournament with a 2-1 victory against Life Oak.
Lizbeth Sanchez assisted on the goal and Bailey Sanchez forced an own goal by Life Oak for Sherman (3-6), which hosts Greenville at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday at Bearcat Gymnasium for the team’s first home match of the season.
Denison 2, Ferris 0
In Melissa, the Lady Yellow Jackets finished off the Highway 5 Tournament with a victory against Ferris.
Denison (5-3) went 4-0 in tourney play with all of the victories by shutout.
In earlier tournament action, the Lady Yellow Jackets had a 1-0 victory against Carrollton Ranchview and a 3-0 win over Alvarado.
The Lady Yellow Jackets play at Lake Dallas on Tuesday night.
Denison 2, Farmersville 2
In Anna, Reece Stange scored and had an assist as the Yellow Jackets closed out the Highway 5 Tournament with a tie against Farmersville.
Keebler Wagoner also scored and Josue Pavon chipped in an assist for Denison (1-4-2), which will host Melissa on Friday night at Munson Stadium.
In earlier tournament action, the Yellow Jackets suffered a 2-0 loss against Ennis when the Lions scored both goals in the second half.
Pine Tree Tournament
Sherman 0, Pine Tree 0
In Longview, the Sherman Bearcats closed out the Pine Tree Tournament with a scoreless tie against the host school.
Sherman held a 16-4 shot advantage but couldn’t put one in to earn the victory as Gerald Clark and Jacob Prado shared the shutout.
Noel Martinez was selected to the all-tournament team for the Bearcats (4-2-4), who are off until playing at Gainesville on Jan. 28.
In earlier tournament action, Sherman had a 6-0 victory against Spring Hill. Martinez scored twice, Dylan Roberson had a goal and an assist, Fabricio Avila and Josue Gonzalez also scored and Spring Hill had an own goal.
Sherman was up 4-0 at half-time and Clark and Prado combined on the shutout for the Bearcats.
