McKINNEY — Denison’s Damian Moreno earned his second straight berth at the regional cross-country meet.
Moreno was seventh at the District 10-5A race with a time of 17:13.53 at Myers Park. He will compete in the Class 5A Region II meet at the Jesse Owens Complex in Dallas on October 28.
Denison finished fifth with 132 points. Lovejoy won the team title.
Ty Kirkbride was 23rd in 18:45.84, Kelan Becker placed 27th in 18:55.60, Jake Owens was 36th with a time of 20:24.04, Tommy Prater was 39th in 21:06.32, Keghan Edgette finished one spot back at 21:22.26 and Kaiser Garner was a spot behind in 21:42.60.
The Sherman Bearcats were sixth and led by Dylan Roberson, who took 16th with a time of 18:31.76. Elijah Martinez was 22nd in 18:45.14, Adrian Paulin was 31st in 19:23.17, Samuel Sanchez finished a spot back in 19:28.63, Victor Mata placed 35th in 20:06.96, Justin Reyna took 38th with a time of 20:59.10 and Skylar Wright was 42nd in 22:37.59.
On the girls side, the Lady Yellow Jackets just missed qualifying for regionals for a second consecutive year as Denison was fourth with 116 points. Lovejoy won with 21 points, followed by McKinney North and Wylie East, which had 74 points.
Roni Douda led the Lady Jackets with a time of 21:08.11 and placed 14th. Paige McMillan was 19th in 21:32.91, Christina Hernandez was right behind with a time of 21:43.53., Ashlinn Hamilton placed 28th in 23:02.59 while Breanna Branch was 35th in 24:44.33, Regan McClure was next in 24:52.07 and Reagan Payne was one spot back in 25:11.09.
Sherman was sixth and led by Lizbeth Sanchez in 29th place with a time of 23:21.67, Serena Mull was 34th in 24:08.41 and four Lady Bearcats were 38th through 42nd — Brandy Moran (25:41.75), Evelyn Smucker (26:05.41), Summer Jones (26:53.68), Nikitaa Kewalramani (27:07.65) and Abigail Escobedo (27:20.19).
