BULLARD — The Pottsboro boys golf team will defend its Class 3A state championship after winning the Region II title at Oak Hurst Golf Course.
Led by defending individual state champion Austyn Reily, who repeated as the region champion, Pottsboro shot a combined 634 to take the region by 12 strokes over runner-up Troup. New Diana also advanced to state with a third-place finish at 665, just ahead of Callisburg at 668 and Van Alstyne, which was fifth at 681.
Reily took the individual crown with a 135, shooting 66-69 over the two rounds, and won by eight strokes over Troup’s Jake Smelser to match his sister, Alli, winning the girls region title earlier in the week.
Garrett Townsend was fifth with a 156, Jack Estes shot a 167 and was 15th, Hayden Kent carded a 176 to tie for 30th and William Baylees had a 217 and was tied for 67th.
Van Alstyne’s Brock Powers advanced to state as an individual with a two-day total of 165 to finish 11th. Nathan Cuthbertson was 17th with a 168, Doak McDonald had a 169 to tied for 18th, Gage Proctor carded a 179 to finish 33rd and Rhett Gallagher was tied for 59th with a 205.
Randal Searls was playing for the Panthers as an individual and shot 180 to place 34th.
Whitesboro’s Jacob Dobbs had a 174 and tied for 27th.
Bells was 10th in the team standings with a 759, one shot behind Quitman. Ben Stephens shot a 166 and was tied for 12th, Nate Stephens had a 169 and was tied for 18th, Eli Norris totaled a 205 to tie for 59th, Wyatt Stephens shot a 219 and was 69th and Garrett Kyle was 80th with a 259.
