WHITESBORO — Karley Wolfe fired a three-hitter, allowing an unearned run with eight strikeouts and two walks and also drove in two runs as Whitesboro kept its playoff hopes alive with a 4-1 victory against Ponder in District 9-3A action on Monday night.
Whitesboro (13-9, 4-7) moved into a fourth-place tie with Ponder (15-14, 4-7) and Pottsboro (12-12, 4-7) going into the final day of the regular season. The Lady Bearcats host Callisburg on Friday while Ponder plays at Pilot Point and Pottsboro hosts S&S.
A Whitesboro win and Pottsboro loss would clinch a playoff spot for the Lady Bearcats. A Whitesboro win and a Pottsboro win or if all three win or all three lose would mean a tie-breaker will be needed to determine the district’s final postseason berth.
BreAnn Beste was 2-for-3, drove in a run and scored twice, Elly Harper scored twice and Jamie Dickson and Jocelyn Giron singled for Whitesboro.
Gunter 10, Pottsboro 2
In Gunter, Monique Villanueva was 2-for-4 with a double, home run, three RBI and scored three times as Gunter finished off an undefeated run through District 9-3A with a victory against Pottsboro on Monday night.
Beth Gilbreath was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and scored, Elizabeth Schroeter was 2-for-4 and drove in a run, Abby Gilbreath singled, walked, drove in a run and scored, Makenna Kincheloe singled and drove in a run and Nichole Leach scored twice for Gunter (24-6, 12-0), which will wait and see its opponent for the playoffs — which will be the fourth seed out of 10-3A.
Pottsboro (12-12, 4-7) falls into a three-way tie with Whitesboro and Ponder for fourth place with one game remaining. The Lady Cardinals host S&S on Friday night.
Bonham 17, Howe 0 (4)
In Howe, Gracie Lankford singled and stole a base during Howe’s district loss against third-place Bonham on Monday night.
Alexia Womack had the only other hit and also stole a base while Chloe Loftice reached on an error for Howe (0-11, 0-12).
Raegan Shackelford was 3-for-4 with two homers, a double, eight RBI and scored three times, Brooke Aaron was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and scored twice and Carsyn Hemby was 3-for-4 and a home run shy of the cycle, drove in a run and scored three times for Bonham (24-5, 7-4), which not only clinched a playoff spot but the third seed for the playoffs. The Lady Warriors will play the District 9-3A runner-up to open the postseason next week.
Tom Bean 13, Ector 2
In Ector, Morgan Clark was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI as Tom Bean defeated Ector in district action on Monday.
Taylor Whitehurst was 3-for-4 with four RBI, Chloe Farrer was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI, Shelby Mason was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI, Emmy Pennell finished 2-for-5 and Ellie Bailey allowed four hits and struck out eight to get the win for Tom Bean (13-8, 7-4), which closes out the regular season by hosting second-place Honey Grove on Thursday. The Lady Tomcats are tied with Sam Rayburn for third place.
Destiny Whitburn homered for Ector (4-11, 2-9), which has clinched the second seed for the Class 1A bracket.
Collinsville 12, Era 5
In Era, Josh King was 3-for-4 with two doubles, six RBI and scored as Collinsville defeated Era in district action on Monday.
Garrett Vannoy was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and scored five times, Gustavo Romo was 2-for-4 and scored three times, Micah Jenkins went 2-for-4 and drove in a run and Luis Hernandez and Dylan Kays each singled and drove in a run for Collinsville (6-14, 6-6).
