LUCAS — Led by a pair of school-record relay times, the Denison Lady Yellow Jackets had 14 area qualifiers and a third-place finish at the District 10-5A track meet.
Faith Shaw, Zachareia Sommers, Maliyah Butler and Christina Hernandez won the 400 relay in 47.82 seconds, breaking the program mark of 48.21 set in 1999.
Shaw, Jade Fry, Butler and Hernandez then won the 800 relay with a time of 1:43.61, breaking the program mark of 1:44.60 set in 1983.
The 1,600 relay of Brilee Payne, Fry, Butler and Hernandez was third with a time of 4:15.63.
Shaw advanced in the 100 with a time of 12.41 seconds.
Payne and Taryni Gaines advanced in the 100 hurdles. Payne was third in 16.50 seconds and Gaines was fourth in 16.52 seconds.
Shania Butler and Payne advanced in the 300 hurdles. Butler was third in 48.82 seconds and Payne was fourth in 49.06 seconds.
Maliyah Butler and Fry also advanced in the triple jump. Butler was the district champ at 36 feet, one and three quarters inches and Fry was fourth at 33 feet, three and half inches.
Maliyah Butler and Shaw also advanced in the long jump. Butler was the runner-up at 18 feet, one inch and Shaw was fourth at 16 feet, eight inches.
Shania Butler and Fry advanced in the high jump. Both cleared four feet, 10 inches.
Sherman has three area qualifiers — Landon Cole was third in the 110 hurdles in 15.16 seconds; Anthony Holland was fourth in the 300 hurdles in 40.40 seconds and Gage Smith was fourth in the long jump at 20 feet, two and a quarter inches.
The 9-5A/10-5A area meet to determine the regional qualifiers will be April 16 at Lovejoy.
