Cordell Dunn was 2-for-5 with a home run and drove in a pair but second-place Grayson College was unable to hold on for a sweep of third-place Hill College with an 8-7 loss in the second game of a North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference double-header at Dub Hayes Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Blake Rambusch was 2-for-5 with a double, drove in a run and scored, Braydon Webb homered and drove in two runs, Will Quillen was 2-for-3 and scored, Riley McKinney tripled and Jarrett Gonzales doubled for the Vikings (25-9, 11-3), who play a double-header at Hill starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Rorik Maltrud allowed two unearned runs on one hit with nine strikeouts and four walks as Grayson built a 7-2 lead going to the eighth inning. Hill scored four times in the eighth to pull within a run and then notched a pair of unearned runs in the ninth to finish off the comeback attempt and salvage the split.
Grayson started the day with a 12-3 victory as Dunn was 3-for-4 with two home runs, seven RBI and scored three times. Gonzales was 3-for-3 and a double shy of the cycle, drove in a run and scored twice, Webb was 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice, Hayden Houser was 2-for-4, Quillen doubled, drove in two runs and scored and Braden Carmichael picked up the win.
Dunn hit a three-run homer in the first and had a three-run blast in the second as the Vikings built a 6-0 lead. After Hill cut the margin in half, Gonzales homered leading off the third.
