WACO — The Denison Lady Yellow Jackets had three top 20 finishes at the Class 5A state powerlifting meet at the Extraco Events Center on Saturday.


Carla Ledezma had the best effort with a 13th place finish at 220 pounds with a total of 945 pounds, improving on her region total of 930 pounds. The sophomore was 15 pounds from reaching the top 10.


Aaliyah Mathis, a junior, was right behind her teammate in 14th place with a total of 915 pounds.


Forney’s Sadie Hewitt won the state title at 1,100 pounds.


Asia Medlin placed 18th at 114 pounds with a total of 570 pounds in her second straight state appearance after making it as a sophomore last spring.


Class 3A


S&S’ Bella Medrano came away with a medal after her performance in the state powerlifting meet on Friday.


Medrano was fifth at 259 pounds with a total of 985 pounds.


The Lady Rams had two other top 12 finishes — Madison Villa was 10th at 97 pounds with a total of 470 pounds and Eimmi Fraire was 12th at 123 pounds with a total of 695 pounds.


Whitesboro’s Jenna Eugster was eighth at 181 pounds with a total of 840 pounds.


Whitewright’s Hayden Thompson was 11th at 198 pounds with a total of 800 pounds. Van Alstyne’s Jessica Thomas placed 12th with a total of 785 pounds.


Class 1A/2A


The Collinsville Lady Pirates finished seventh at the state powerlifting meet on Friday.


Collinsville earned nine points and was just three points from finishing in the top five. Seagraves won the team title with 24 points, followed by Freer and Eldorado, which each had 18 points.


Baylee Lawdermilk was the state runner-up at 148 pounds with a total of 815 pounds. She and champion Marisol DeLuna of Eldorado were the only lifters to break 800 pounds. DeLuna won the title at 845 pounds.


Ashlee Bacher was seventh in the same weight class with a total of 655 pounds.


Olivia Trevino was fourth at 198 pounds with a total of 890 pounds. She was 15 pounds from third and 20 from second. Mekenzie Morley was 10th with a total of 615 pounds.


Kaitlyn Long was fourth at 220 pounds with a total of 840 pounds.


Talon Andrews was seventh at 132 pounds with a total of 680 points.


Lexi Roberts placed ninth at 165 pounds with a total of 745 pounds.


Tom Bean’s Sophia Langford finished fifth at 123 pounds with a total of 745 pounds, ending on the right side of a tie-breaker against Gladewater Union Grove’s Madi Newman.


Jaclyn Rodgers also had a fifth-place finish for the Lady Tomcats at 259 pounds with a total of 900 pounds.


Cameron Cunningham was 12th at 220 pounds with a total of 715 pounds.


Texoma Christian’s Bailey Yale was seventh at 259-plus pounds with a total of 750 pounds.
