PROSPER — Elijah Martinez’s second-half goal lifted the Sherman Bearcats to a 2-1 victory against Justin Northwest at the Prosper Tournament on Friday.


The Bearcats (4-4-3) were down 1-0 at the half but had the wind on its side in the second half and used it to their advantage with several chances.


Izak Mejia tied the score off a header assisted on a cross by Christian Chinchilla and then Martinez converted from the right-hand side of the penalty box into the lower left-hand corner of the net.


Due to weather concerns on Saturday, the rest of the tournament schedule was cancelled.


Sherman will host Denton at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday at Bearcat Stadium.


Highway 5 Tournament


HSAA 3, Denison 2


Reece Stange scored both goals for Denison but the Yellow Jackets closed out the Highway 5 Tournament with a loss against HSAA on Friday.


Andres Menjivar assisted on both goals for Denison (2-5-1), which hosts Melissa for a non-district contest at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday at Munson Stadium.

Highway 5 Tournament


Anna 1, Sherman 0


ANNA — The Sherman Lady Bearcats suffered a shutout loss against host Anna to end the Highway 5 Tournament on Friday.


The lone goal came on a penalty kick by Anna.


Sherman (3-5-1) plays at Greenville in non-district action on Tuesday night.


Due to weather concerns on Saturday, the rest of the tournament schedule was cancelled.


Melissa 4, Denison 0


MELISSA — The Denison Lady Yellow Jackets closed out the Highway 5 Tournament with a shutout loss against host Melissa on Friday.


Reagan Eichel scored twice for Melissa with Macie Robertson and Lucy Hurst adding goals by the Lady Cardinals.


Denison started Friday with a 2-0 victory against Paris.


Due to weather concerns on Saturday, the rest of the tournament schedule was cancelled.


The Lady Yellow Jackets (8-3) will host Melissa for a non-district contest at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Munson Stadium.
