MELISSA — The Sherman Lady Bearcats closed out the first day of the Highway 5 Tournament with a 50-29 victory against McKinney Christian on Thursday.
Libby Ticknor scored 15 points, Jadyne Gatewood added 10 points and Kursten Alexander added seven points for the Lady Bearcats (5-9).
Sherman started the day with a 56-38 loss against Melissa. Ticknor had 12 points, Savanna Hall added eight points and Olivia Bindel chipped in seven points.
Van Alstyne 72, Trinity Christian-Addison 36
VAN ALSTYNE — Avery Duncan scored 17 points as Van Alstyne finished the day at the Highway 5 Tournament with a victory over Trinity Christian-Addison on Thursday.
Maegan Thomas totaled 16 points, Emma Donald added 13 points and Micah Welch chipped in nine points for the Lady Panthers.
Van Alstyne started the day with a 67-35 victory against Dallas Woodrow Wilson. Duncan scored 20 points, Donald added 11 points, Torin Riddick chipped in nine points and Thomas finished with eight points for the Lady Panthers.
Bonham 36, Honey Grove 33
NEVADA — Averi Reeves scored 13 points as Bonham nipped Honey Grove in the quarterfinals of the Community Tournament on Thursday.
Melanee Lewis added 12 points for Bonham, which faces Bells in the semifinals today at 3 p.m.
Bree Cason scored 14 points and Makiyah Johnson added 12 points for Honey Grove.
Bells 71, Community 9
NEVADA — Cheznie Hale had 20 points and six steals as Bells defeated the host school in the quarterfinals of the Community Tournament on Thursday.
Alexis Grove scored 18 points, Gabby Smith chipped in 15 points and nine steals, Courtney Davidson had six points, Mia Moore totaled five points and six rebounds, Kayton Arnold finished with four points and six rebounds and Haley Arledge added three points and six steals for Bells, which faces Bonham in the semifinals today at 3 p.m. The Lady Panthers led 32-2 after the first quarter.
Madill (Okla.) Tournament
Gunter 54, Marietta (Okla.) 44
MADILL, Okla. — Tori Gittens scored 25 points as Gunter opened the Madill Winter Classic with a victory against Marietta (Okla.) on Thursday.
Sarah Putnicki added 11 points, Bri Carr added nine points and Blakely Esnard finished with eight points as Gunter (10-2) won its eighth straight game going into tourney action today against Sulphur.
Sulphur Bluff Tournament
Ector 45, Sulphur Bluff 33
SULPHUR BLUFF — Jordyn Blakey scored 16 points as Ector finished the first day of the Sulphur Bluff Tournament with a victory over the host school on Thursday.
Destiny Whitburn and Riley Evans each added 10 points for the Lady Eagles.
Ector started the day with a 51-45 loss against Paris Home School. Whitburn scored 16 points, Mary Salazar added 14 points and Evans scored eight points.
