MIDLOTHIAN — The Callisburg Lady Wildcats are headed to the state volleyball tournament for the third straight season after a 25-19, 25-13, 25-15 victory against district rival Gunter in the Class 3A Region II final at Midlothian on Saturday afternoon.


Callisburg (45-4), last year’s runner-up, will play in a state semifinal at either 11 a.m. or 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland. Vanderbilt Industrial, Boyd and Troy are the other qualifying teams. The pairings and match times will be released on Sunday.


Beth Gilbreath had 14 kills and four digs to lead Gunter (30-16) while Nyah Ingram added 18 digs and Jacee Childers handed out 29 assists to go with six digs. It was the first time the Lady Tigers reached the region final in program history.


Gunter beat Mount Vernon, 25-17, 25-23, 25-13, on Friday in the region semifinals. Gilbreath had 16 kills and eight digs and Childers finished with 39 assists and six digs


Callisburg advanced to the region final with a 25-8, 25-15, 23-25, 25-12 victory over Commerce.
