McKINNEY — Seth McGowan rushed for 241 yards and scored three touchdowns as Mesquite Poteet scored twice to break a tie game in the fourth quarter and defeated McKinney North, 53-39, on Thursday night at McKinney ISD Stadium in the District 7-5A (I) finale for both teams.

The outcome puts Sherman in the postseason for the second year in a row, as the No. 3 seed out of the district. The Bearcats (4-5, 3-2) head to Tyler John Tyler tonight to close the regular season, then will travel to either College Station or Magnolia West next weekend for the bi-district round of the 5A Division I playoffs.

All the seedings out of 7-5A (I) are now set. John Tyler sewed up the No. 1 seed last week, while Poteet clinched No. 2 with Thursday’s win and McKinney North will settle for No. 4. North will travel to No. 5-ranked Lufkin next week.
