LITTLE ELM — After losing both District 9-3A matches against Ponder, the Gunter Lady Tigers earned the win they needed the most and it earned them a trip to the region tournament after rallying for a 21-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, 16-14 victory over the Lady Lions in a Class 3A Region II quarterfinal match at Denton Braswell on Tuesday night.


Beth Gilbreath had 25 kills, 10 digs and two aces, Lakin Satre added 18 kills, four digs and two aces and Jacee Childers totaled 63 assists, eight digs and two aces for Gunter (29-15), which will play Mount Vernon in the region semifinals at 5 p.m. on Friday at Midlothian. It is the second straight season the Lady Tigers made the region tourney.


Callisburg def. Van Alstyne 3-0


AUBREY — The Callisburg Lady Wildcats moved one win closer to a third straight state tournament appearance after beating Van Alstyne, 25-9, 25-18, 25-12, in a Class 3A Region II quarterfinal at Aubrey on Tuesday night.


Callisburg (43-4) will face Commerce in the region semifinals at 7 p.m. on Friday at Midlothian.


Van Alstyne, which was trying to reach the region tournament for the first time since 2015, finished with a 33-7 record.


Class 2A Region II


Windthorst def. Collinsville 3-0


CHICO — The Collinsville Lady Pirates were eliminated from the playoffs as Windthorst earned a 25-22, 25-16, 25-21 victory in a Class 2A Region II quarterfinal match at Chico on Tuesday night.


Windthorst will face Crawford in a region semifinal at 7 p.m. on Friday at Weatherford.


Collinsville, which was trying to reach the region tournament for the first time since 2014, finished the season with a 32-11 record.
