McKINNEY — The Denison girls cross country team finished third at the District 10-5A meet at Myers Park on Tuesday to qualify for regionals and Damian Moreno also advanced with a top 10 finish on the boys side.

Denison earned 84 points to finish behind champion Lovejoy and McKinney North. Sherman was sixth with 152 points. The Class 5A Region II meet is at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie on October 22.

Zaycia Guthrie led the Lady Jackets with an eighth-place finish in a time of 22:08.61. Ashlinn Hamilton was 14th in 22:49.87; Christina Hernandez placed 19th in 23:11.83, Roni Douda was 20th in 23:12.73, Paige McMillan placed 23rd in 23:33.01, Regan McClure was 30th with a time of 25:10.45 and Emory Redwine was 37th in 26:39.61.

Defending state champion London Culbreath of McKinney North won the district title in 18:41.98.

On the boys side, Denison was fifth with 129 points and Sherman was sixth with 151 points. Lovejoy won the team title with 15 points.

Moreno led Denison with a time of 19:15.81 that was 17 seconds ahead of the time needed for the final berth at regionals. Tommy Prater was 21st in 20:12.42, Shelby Larowe was 26th in 20:27.38, Kelan Becker was 33rd in 21:27.98, Luke Kirkbride placed 39th in 22:53.03, Dillon Patton was 40th in 22:58.43 and Jaxon Schwichtengberg was 41st in 23:37.77.

Eric Garcia led Sherman with a time of 19:45.82 that had him finish 15th. Elijah Martinez was 31st in 20:57.35, Samuel Sanchez placed 34th in 21:35.25, Dylan Roberson was 35th at 21:38.08, Jacob Gibson was a step behind with a time of 21:38.11 and Adrian Paulin was 37th in 21:53.21.

Lovejoy’s Will Muirhead won the district title in 17:14.31.
