Sherman rounded out its varsity coaching staff with the announcement that Nic Summerfield will take over as the head girls soccer coach.

Summerfield, who replaces Anthony Shearer, has been an assistant coach at Sherman the past two seasons and is a former football player for the University of North Texas. He graduated from UNT in 2013 and later served as a graduate assistant for the Mean Green before being hired by Sherman.

The Lady Bearcats were 4-12-6 overall and sixth in the District 5-5A standings with a 1-8-3 mark this past season after a fifth-place district finish in 2017. The program last made the playoffs in 2014 as part of back-to-back postseason appearances.

Sherman’s last season with a winning record was in 2007.

February’s realignment placed Sherman into District 10-5A with Denison, Lovejoy, McKinney North, Princeton and Wylie East.

Earlier this month, Sherman named Reeca Huntsman the softball coach and Jordan Marks the boys basketball coach.
