Former Gunter standout and University of Northern Colorado sophomore pitcher Troy Watson was selected on the final day of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday

Watson, who is the first NC player selected in three years, was picked by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round with the 446th overall selection.

He entered the draft ranked by Baseball America as the top available prospect in the state of Colorado. Watson was 3-2 with a 2.91 earned run average in seven appearances, five starts, with 24 strikeouts and nine walks in 34 innings as the Bears went 29-24 overall.
