With graduation just around the corner, Sherman’s Jacob Charske made his college destination official on Monday.

The senior runner signed to run cross country and track at Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kansas.

“It feels good to know that all the hard work paid off,” Charske said on running with the Tigers. “ Now, I have that chance to run in college.“

Charske said he enjoyed the vibe around the campus when he visited. He also built a good relationship with Dan Adler, who serves as both the head cross country coach and assistant track coach.

“I just liked the atmosphere,” Charske said. “It’s a good program with good coaches. They showed me around the campus and I really liked it there.”

Charske caps off a high school career that had reached some personal milestones this year. Among his highlights this past season was setting personal bests of 2:02.14 in the 800 meters in the Class 5A District5/6-5A area track meet and 4:42.60 in the 1,600 meters at the District 5-5A meet.

He was also a top 10 finisher in the 5-5A cross country meet and the best finisher at the regional meet.

“I’ve worked my way up and I feel like running at Sherman really prepared me well,” Charske said. “I’ve just enjoyed being around all my teammates and having fun at meets.”

As for what he’s looking forward to the most, he’s just ready to get his shot to showcase his talents.

“It means a lot to have everyone around me,” Charske said. “I’m just looking forward to competing and having fun. I’m ready to move forward and take that next step.”
