WICHITA FALLS — Jill Dixon was 3-for-3 with a home run, double and scored twice as Sherman started District 5-5A play with a 7-1 victory against Wichita Falls Rider on Tuesday night.

Jessica Bridges allowed a run on four hits and two walks while striking out nine and also was 2-for-4, drove in a run and scored, Jillian Whitmire doubled and drove in two runs and Ashley Boatright doubled, drove in a run and scored twice for Sherman (2-6, 1-0), which broke the game open with a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

Whitmire’s two-out double in the seventh scored Kenna Ferguson and Dixon to provide the insurance runs after Bridges’ RBI single earlier in the inning.

The Lady Bearcats are schedule to compete in the Wylie Tournament starting on Thursday.

Wichita Falls 11, Denison 10

WICHITA FALLS — Kayla Daugherty was 4-for-5 with three doubles, four RBI and scored but Denison’s comeback fell short against Wichita Falls in the District 5-5A opener on Tuesday.

Daugherty’s two-run single in the seventh made it a one-run game and the Lady Jackets had the go-ahead run at first base when Wichita Falls, which scored six runs in the third and five runs in the fifth, held on.

Kaylee Walters was 3-for-5 with a home run and scored three times, Yvette Moreno was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and scored twice and Haley Earnhart doubled and scored for Denison (2-4, 0-1), which had a 5-0 lead going to the bottom of the third inning.

The Lady Jackets will play in the McKinney Tournament. Denison faces Redwater at 11 a.m. at McKinney and Midland at 5 p.m. at McKinney North on Thursday, then plays McKinney North at 9 a.m. and Mount Pleasant at 11 a.m. and Celina at 3 p.m. at McKinney on Friday and closes against McKinney North at 11 a.m. at North on Saturday.


Celina 1, S&S 0

CELINA — Despite getting just one hit, Celina was able to pick up a non-district victory against S&S on Tuesday.

Randi Dobbins and Micayla Galloway combined on a three-hit shutout, walking five and striking out nine. The Lady Bobcats (7-0) got the only run in the fourth when Grace Cantu walked, Skylar Vest reached on a bunt single and Cantu then scored on a dropped third strike.

Jada Mueller and Lauren Jaresh combined to allow one hit and six walks while striking out 14 for S&S. Jaresh, Muller and Taylor Maxwell singled for the Lady Rams.

Sanger 5, Anna 2

ANNA — Amber Thille singled, walked twice, drove in a run and scored during Anna’s non-district loss against Sanger on Tuesday night.

Chasity Brown tripled and scored and Hannah Howell singled and Madison Gaston walked twice for the Lady Coyotes.

Sanger scored all five runs in the second inning before Anna scored twice in the fifth.

Honey Grove 13, Cooper 4

COOPER — Maddison Cason was 2-for-3, drove in a run and scored as Honey Grove beat Cooper in its season-opener in non-district action on Monday.

Makiyah Johnson and Aynslie Andrew each doubled, drove in a run and scored twice, Bree Cason was 2-for-4, doubled, drove in a run and scored and Bailey Shelton doubled, drove in a run and scored for Honey Grove, which plays Rivercrest at 10 a.m. and Sam Rayburn at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Chisum Tournament.



Howe 5, Bells 4 (6)

BELLS — Cade Courtney was 3-for-3 with a double and scored a run as Howe beat Bells in six innings in non-district action on Monday.

Bryce Krantz was 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored, Parker Blount had a pair of RBI, Dyson Dillard was 2-for-2 and scored and Peyton Reagan was 2-for-3 with a double for Howe.

Kason Huschke and Stephen Hinds each went 2-for-3 and scored, Matthew Conner was 2-for-4 and drove in a run, Hunter Hawthorne doubled, drove in a run and scored and Eli Strickland doubled and scored for Bells.
