HALTOM CITY — The Denison Yellow Jackets closed out the Birdville Tournament with a 2-0 victory against Azle on Saturday.
Moises Mandujano and Jared Aguilar scored second-half goals for Denison (3-4-1), which begins District 5-5A play at Wichita Falls on Tuesday night. Kevin Roblero-Perez earned the shutout with three saves.
Denison started the tournament with a 3-1 loss against Arlington. Andres Menjivar scored his fourth goal of the season for the Jackets. Birdville beat DHS, 3-0, on Friday.
Sherman 0, Frisco Heritage 0
The Sherman Bearcats played Frisco Heritage to a scoreless tie at Bearcat Stadium on Friday night in a final tune-up or district play.
Gerald Clark and Miguel Ramirez each played a half in net for Sherman (2-3-3), which opens the 5-5A portion of the schedule at Wichita Falls Rider on Tuesday night.
Denison 2, Argyle 1
MELISSA — The Lady Yellow Jackets finished the Anna-Melissa Tournament with a victory against Argyle on Saturday morning.
In tournament action on Friday, Denison had a 3-0 victory over Bonham. The Lady Jackets started the tournament with a 4-0 loss against Frisco Lebanon Trail and a 4-3 loss against Melissa on Thursday.
Denison (7-6), which has already won more matches than the previous three seasons combined, hosts Wichita Falls at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday night to open District 5-5A play.
