POTTSBORO — Zya Nugent scored 28 points as Denison closed out the Pottsboro Tournament with a 48-36 victory against Krum on Saturday.

Ikia Lacy added eight points and J’Nique Wilson chipped in six points for Denison (13-3), which takes on Royse City at 1 p.m. on Monday at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

Nugent and Zachareia Sommers were named to the all-tournament team.

In tournament action on Friday, Denison defeated Gainesville, 67-16, to go with a 71-55 victory against Bowie. In the win over Gainesville, Nugent had 25 points, Sommers added 13 points and Lacy added 12 points. In the win against Bowie, Nugent scored 37 points while Sommers and Lacy each finished with 12 points.

Sherman 43, Gainesville 34

POTTSBORO — Jaylen Edmonson scored 18 points as Sherman finished the Pottsboro Tournament with a victory against Gainesville on Saturday.

Sherman earned a 57-56 victory over against Honey Grove on Friday as Edmonson hit a shot at the buzzer and finished with 23 points. Libby Ticknor added 17 points for the Lady Bearcats.

Pottsboro 51, Melissa 48

POTTSBORO — Madeline O’Hanlon had 13 points and 10 rebounds as Pottsboro beat Melissa to close out its tournament on Saturday.

Haiden Williams added 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Tatum Rekieta finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three steals and Hadley Williams chipped in 10 points and five rebounds for Pottsboro.

Sally Clemmons had 16 points and four rebounds, Taylor Thomas added nine points, eight rebounds and three assists, and Taylor Carney and Ashley Gideon each finished with seven points for Melissa.

Haiden Williams, O’Hanlon, Thomas and Natalie Conlin were named to the all-tournament team.

In tournament action on Friday, Pottsboro picked up a 34-33 victory against Krum. Hadley Williams scored eight points, Riley Westervelt chipped in seven points and six rebounds, Hannah Fellinger added six points and Madeline O’Hanlon finished with five points and 11 rebounds.

Pottsboro also had a 60-29 victory against Honey Grove. Tatum Rekieta and Hadley Williams each scored 10 points, Haiden Williams added nine points and O’Hanlon finished with seven points and 10 rebounds.

In tournament action on Friday, Melissa earned a 66-42 victory against Gunter. Thomas had 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals, Gideon scored 15 points, Clemmons added 12 points, six rebounds and five steals and Carney totaled 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Lady Cardinals also had a 71-35 victory against Gainesville. Gideon had 16 points and seven rebounds, Carney finished with 15 points, Clemmons totaled 14 points and seven assists, Thomas chipped in 13 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals.

Honey Grove 48, Gunter 42

POTTSBORO — Makiyah Johnson scored 16 points as Honey Grove closed out the Pottsboro Tournament with a victory against Gunter on Saturday.

Isabella Morrison added 14 points and Diavian Shaw chipped in eight points for Honey Grove (8-6).

Tori Gittens had 24 points and Sarah Putnicki chipped in 10 points for Gunter.

Both Shaw and Gittens were named to the all-tournament team.

The Lady Warriors closed out tourney play Friday with a 60-29 loss against Pottsboro. Shaw had 12 points and Johnson added five points.

Honey Grove started the day with a 57-56 loss against Sherman. Shaw scored 21 points, Alexandra Morrison added 11 points and Isabella Morrison and Johnson each finished with nine points.

Dodd City Tournament


Dodd City 70, Campbell 40

DODD CITY — Paige Granstaff scored 31 points as Dodd City won its tournament with a victory against Campbell on Saturday.

Abby Weeks added 19 points and Journie Hilliard chipped in nine points for Dodd City (12-0).

In tournament action on Friday, Dodd City defeated Tom Bean, 76-15, before a 76-31 victory against Whitewright. In the win against Tom Bean, Granstaff scored 23 points, Weeks added 18 points and Hilliard finished with 14 points. In the win against Whitewright, Granstaff had 30 points, Weeks finished with 24 points and Marissa Mills chipped in eight points.

Third Place

Van Alstyne 47, Whitewright 40

DODD CITY — Emma Donald scored 14 points as Van Alstyne defeated Whitewright to claim third place at the Dodd City Tournament.

Torin Riddick added 12 points and was named to the all-tournament team for Van Alstyne (8-3).

Jy’Rea Johnson led Whitewright with 14 points.

In tournament action on Friday, Van Alstyne earned a 56-55 victory against Sam Rayburn and lost, 62-46, against Campbell. Riddick scored 13 points in the win over Sam Rayburn while Avery Duncan and Breanna McCaskill each totaled 11 points. In the loss against Campbell, Donald had 10 points, Riddick added nine points and Duncan finished with seven points.

In tournament action on Friday, Tom Bean lost, 53-35, against Wolfe City. Alyssa Edwards and Cheyanne Worley each scored eight points.

Tom Bean started the day with a 75-15 loss against Dodd City. Abby Farrer had six points and Worley added four points.

Valley View Tournament

Whitesboro 60, Hockaday 42

VALLEY VIEW — Piper Dunn scored 20 points as Whitesboro closed out the Valley View Tournament with a victory against Hockaday on Saturday.

Casey Monk added 15 points, Phoenix West finished with 11 points and Karlee Schuessler was named to the all-tournament team for Whitesboro (9-5), which will host Van Alstyne at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.

In tournament action on Friday, Whitesboro beat Nocona, 60-59, to go with a 32-26 loss against Valley View. In the win against Nocona, Destiny Mack had 15 points, Monk added 14 points, Schuessler finished with 10 points and West chipped in nine points. Dunn led the team with 11 points against Valley View.


Ector 47, Callisburg 41

ECTOR — Destiny Whitburn and Sunnie Bingham each scored 13 points as Ector defeated Callisburg in non-district action on Friday night.

Stormy Shockley and Mary Salazar chipped in six points apiece for Ector (7-2), which hosts Roxton on Tuesday night.

Jessie Payne scored 19 points, Kennedy Payne chipped in seven points and Desirae Barker added six points for Callisburg.
