ROUND ROCK — Melissa’s Judson Greer earned a bronze medal and the Cardinals were fourth as a team at the Class 4A state cross-country meet on Saturday at Old Settlers Park.

Greer, a freshman, was third in 16:08.56, just edging Taylor’s Eli Ortiz by 0.32 seconds for the final spot on the podium. Edwin Gomez of San Elizario won the title in 15:36.16 and Christian Rivera of Kaufman was the runner-up in 15:58.40.

The Cardinals finished behind Kaufman by 32 points to for the bronze in the team standings. Jackson Scribner was 18th in 16:51.05, Blake Chaloupka was 24th at 16:59.05, Lucas Tauch had a time of 17:42.78 for 79th, Frank Graham was 96th in 17:56.14, Dain Miller was 133rd in 18:52.82 and Carson Ross was 148th in 19:51.76.

On the girls side, Melissa’s Alison Kocsis was 61st with a time of 12:51.14.

Class 3A

The Pilot Point boys earned the bronze medal at the Class 3A state cross country meet.

The Bearcats finished with 140 points and were third on a tie-breaker with Eustace, behind only Lulling and Tornillo.

Adam Mendoza was fourth with a time of 15:58.30 while Connor Walker was right behind in fifth at 15:58.32. Adan Franco placed 33rd with a time of 17:04.49, Sergio Portillo was 72nd in 17:44.73, Ethan Hite was 86th in 17:56.97, Juan Giron had a time of 18:02.68 to place 92nd and Nate Brown was 103rd in 18:22.53.

The Whitesboro Bearcats placed seventh in the team standings and 10 points from the top five.

Michael Urbina led the effort with an eighth-place finish in 16:10.66, Max Merlyn was 22nd in 16:52.99, Preston Garrett was 43rd in 17:15.49, Dustin White was 99th in 18:15.60, Antonio Flores placed 100th with a time of 18:17.63, Hunter Case finished 108th in 18:27.01 and Manuel Labrada was 126th in 18:55.02.

Van Alstyne’s Bryce Sevarino was 55th with a time of 17:24.11.

On the girls side, Pilot Point earned a sixth-place finish and was just three points from the top five and 13 from getting a medal.

Brisa Hernandez led the Lady Bearcats with a time of 12:25.58 and placed 22nd, Claire Thompson was 29th in 12:35.77, Montserrat Hernandez placed 58th with a time of 12:56.33, Leticia Ascencio was 95th in 13:22.58, Jessica Zackery had a time of 13:27.60 for 105th, Maddie Mascari was 14:01.55 for 125th and Kassy Gann was 128th in 14:06.00.

The Van Alstyne girls placed 12th in the team standings. Jenna Leinart led the Lady Panthers with a time of 12:46.49 to finish 43rd.

Emma Morgan was 80th in 13:10.07, G’Daiya Hall was 96th with a time of 13:22.58, Kate Carson placed 99th in 13:25.45, Natalia Herrera was 144th in 15:18.26, Faith Griffin was 146th at 15:46.46 and Rachel Greve was 147th in 15:59.89.

Leonard’s Audrey Shaw was 48th with a time of 12:49.97 and teammate Jessi Bennett was 61st with a time of 12:58.17.

Class 2A

Sam Rayburn’s Riley Hall was 16th with a time of 17:18.04 in the Class 2A state meet.

Blue Ridge’s Alex Branscome finished 49th with a time of 17:59.03.

On the girls side, Sam Rayburn’s Kayleigh Brinlee was 56th with a time of 13:11.49.

Class 1A

Tioga’s Justin Rodriguez placed 14th with a time of 17:15.09 in the Class 1A state meet.
