AUBREY — The Denison Lady Yellow Jackets saw their season come up a victory short of a second straight playoff appearance after the Denton Lady Broncos earned a 25-15, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22 victory in the final part of a District 5-5A tie-breaker at Aubrey on Friday night.

Denton (11-25), which will face District 6-5A champion Aledo in the bi-district round, beat Braswell on Thursday for the right to play Denison (23-15) which won a coin flip for a bye after the three teams tied for fourth in the standings.

Leonard def. Van Alstyne 3-1

WHITEWRIGHT — Alyssa Davis had 18 kills, 10 digs and seven aces as Leonard defeated Van Alstyne, 25-10, 25-21, 19-25, 25-15, in a district tie-breaker on Friday.

Madelyn Butler added seven kills and three digs, Chloey Baker collected 12 digs and Linda Feagan handed out 31 assists to go with six digs for Leonard (27-12), which earned the third seed and will face Gunter in a Class 3A Region II bi-district match at Anna at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Van Alstyne (20-14) gets the fourth seed and will face Callisburg in a bi-district match at 7 p.m. on Monday at Howe.


Whitesboro def. Princeton 3-2

WHITESBORO — Qyra Ressler had 12 kills and nine digs as Whitesboro beat Princeton, 20-25, 23-25, 25-23, 26-24, 15-13, in a playoff warm-up on Friday.

Karlee Schuessler totaled 14 assists, 13 digs and five kills, Phoenix West finished with 19 digs, five kills and four aces, Maggie McCorkle added 12 assists, seven digs, four aces and three kills and Jenna Eugster collected 11 digs for Whitesboro (20-16), which faces Commerce in a Class 3A Region II bi-district match at 6:30 p.m. at Blue Ridge on Monday.

Blue Ridge def. Miller Grove 3-0

BLUE RIDGE — Shelby Gerner had 11 kills, seven blocks and six aces as Blue Ridge defeated Miller Grove, 25-7, 25-13, 25-13, in a playoff warm-up on Friday.

Skylar Gerner added eight kills and five blocks, Ellery Martin chipped in six kills and three blocks, Kelsie Kennon finished with eight digs, three aces and two kills, Dakota Deckard handed out 11 assists, Marlaina Morgan totaled seven assists, five digs and three aces and Taylor Langwell collected 19 digs for Blue Ridge (21-12), which has a first-round bye before facing either Valley View or Alvord in the area round later this week.
