VAN ALSTYNE — Chase Wilson and Gage Proctor each scored twice and and the Panthers overcame a sluggish start to win going away, 63-10, against the Callisburg Wildcats in District 5-3A (I) action on Friday.

Van Alstyne (6-2, 2-1) scored three times in the second and fourth quarters to pull away after Callisburg (1-7, 0-3) trailed 7-3 after the opening 12 minutes.

Wilson caught two of Rhett Gallagher’s three touchdown passes and Justin Barnes led the Panthers with 128 yards and a TD on only seven carries.

Justin Crisp had nine carries for 103 yards and a touchdown while Sam Lewis added 23 carries for 62 yards for Callisburg.

The Wildcats started the action near the end of the first quarter on a 23-yard field goal by Julian Diaz.

Wilson put the Panthers in front with a 41-yard touchdown catch and Van Alstyne started to get in a groove.

The two connected in the middle of the second quarter for a 17-yard TD pass and then Zach Wright extended the lead to 21-3 on a 24-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Jake Carroll capped the first half with a 16-yard touchdown for a 28-3 lead at the break

Barnes got in on the act with a 29-yard TD run and Austin Moore nabbed a 33-yard touchdown pass for Van Alstyne in the third quarter.

Proctor had touchdown runs of 18 and 13 yards on back-to-back possessions early in the fourth quarter.

Crisp scored the lone Callisburg touchdown on a 46-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Tanner Jones, who finished with 10 carries for 96 yards, closed out the scoring with his own TD run.

Van Alstyne travels to co-leader Pottsboro while Callisburg hosts the other team in first place, Whitesboro, this week. A win by Van Alstyne would clinch a playoff spot.
