CONWAY, Ark. — Hendrix quarterback Miles Thompson passed for four touchdowns Saturday and the Warriors held off Austin College’s comeback bid to beat the Kangaroos 36-24 at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.

Down 36-10 at halftime, the ’Roos used a pair of Brandon Evans touchdown runs to get back in the game, but Hendrix held on down the stretch. Austin College (2-2 overall, 0-2 SAA) lost the ball on downs at the Hendrix 6-yard line and its own 48 on its last two possessions.

Thompson completed 19 of 37 passes for 323 yards as Hendrix (3-1, 1-1) finished with 478 total yards. Nate Hodapp caught eight passes for 100 yards for the Warriors.

Jerry Johnson rushed for 146 yards on 21 carries to lead AC, while Evans finished with 82 yards and three TDs on 10 carries. Johnson and Colt Collins combined to complete 12 of 30 passes for 122 yards.

Hendrix struck first as Thompson hit Michael Spainhour for a 25-yard score, but AC answered with Evans’ 5-yard TD run.

The Warriors pulled away as Thompson had TD passes of 57 yards to Ben Luedtke and 13 yards to Gage Oppel to go up 21-7 late in the first quarter.

After an exchange of field goals early in the second quarter, Hendrix took control as Thompson ran for a 7-yard TD and found Blake Hinton for a 14-yard score.

Evans scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter, then raced 34 yards with 13:30 remaining to get the ‘Roos within two scores.
