AUSTIN — The Pottsboro boys golf team is in fourth place after the opening round of the Class 3A state tournament at Grey Rock Golf Course on Monday.
The Cardinals shot a combined 339 and is within striking distance of a medal going into today’s final round. Pottsboro is four shots behind New Diana and 10 shots behind second-place Brock. Troup holds the lead with a 315.
Austyn Reily led Pottsboro and is tied for seventh after opening with a 77 and two shots from third place. Garrett Townsend is tied for 32nd with an 86 and Hayden Maines is a stroke back. Hayden Kent shot an 89 and is tied for 41st and Cade Andrews finished with a 98 and is tied for 59th.
Van Alstyne’s Nathan Cuthbertson is tied for 16th after opening with an 80.
Gunter’s Kole Gillespie is tied for 27th after opening with an 83.
Comanche’s Kasey Middleton and Brock’s Garrett Leek share in the individual lead after 72s
Tioga’s Carter Sinclair is tied for 36th in the Class 1A state boys golf tournament after opening with a 99 at Lions Municipal Golf Course on Monday.
Sinclair is six shots from making it into the top 20.
Happy’s Mitchell Downing and Sterling White share the individual lead going into today’s final round after they each carded 71s.
