AUSTIN — The Pottsboro boys golf team earned the bronze medal with a third-place finish at the Class 3A state tournament at Grey Rock Golf Course on Tuesday.


The Cardinals improved 19 shots from their opening round and finished with a combined score of 659 to finish four strokes in from of New Diana, which entered the final round with a four-shot lead on Pottsboro.


Troup won the state championship with a 621 while Brock was the runner-up with a 636.


Austyn Reily led Pottsboro and was eighth with a two-day total of 150. He was one shot from tying for a top-five finish, two strokes from third place, three shots from tying for second and five behind the individual state champion, Kasey Middleton of Comanche.


Hayden Maines tied for 26th after shooting a combined 166, Garrett Townsend tied for 32nd with a 169, Hayden Kent tied for 40th with a 174 and Cade Andrews was 60th with a 195.


Van Alstyne’s Nathan Cuthbertson tied for 19th with a two-day total of 159.


Gunter’s Kole Gillespie tied with Maines for 26th with a two-day total of 166 after shooting 83 in both rounds.


Class 1A


Tioga’s Carter Sinclair finished 46th in the Class 1A state boys golf tournament with a two-day total of 206 at Lions Municipal Golf Course on Tuesday.


Happy’s Sterling White won the 1A individual title with a 144, edging teammate Mitchell Downing, who was the runner-up with a 147.
