BOWIE — The Dodd City Lady Hornets defeated Gorman, 12-6, in the Class 1A Region II final on Saturday night to earn a trip to the state tournament.
Dodd City (9-11) will join Hermleigh, Slocum and Bartlett at the Class 1A state tournament, which will hold the semifinals at Mary Hardin-Baylor at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on June 2. The title game is at the University of Texas at 9 a.m. on June 3. The pairings will be announced the week of the tournament.
It is the second state tournament appearance for the Lady Hornets, joining a semifinal finish in 2003.
Baseball Region semifinals Class 1A Region II Savoy 16, Dodd City 6 (6)
The Savoy Cardinals pulled off a double-header sweep and run-ruled Dodd City in the deciding contest of a Class 1A Region II semifinal series at Veterans Field in Sherman on Saturday.
Savoy (10-16) will face Abbott in the region final for a trip to the state tournament later this week.
Savoy forced the deciding game with a 21-12 victory earlier in the day, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Devin Smith was 2-for-5 with a double, four RBI and four runs, Sam Dugger was 3-for-5, drove in a run and scored three times, Braeden Dillon was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and scored, Lane Block and Casey Colclasure drove in two runs and Patrik McCauley scored three times for Savoy.
Paul Sutton was 4-for-4 with a double and triple, drove in a run and scored three times, Alec Simpson was 2-for-5 with four RBI and scored, Baylee Graves was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Pate Wilkerson was 2-for-5 with a double, drove in a run and scored twice for Dodd City.
In Game 1 on Friday night, Tyler Babers’ two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Dodd City to a 4-3 victory.
Graves was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs and pitched all eight innings for the win, Clayton Dockery was 2-for-3 and Sutton scored for Dodd City, which scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to force the extra inning.
Smith tripled and drove in a run, McCauley tripled and scored, Jonny Stone doubled and scored and Bock and Dillon drove in runs for Savoy.
Region quarterfinals Class 2A Region II Game 2 Lindsay 5, Sam Rayburn 2
PONDER — Casey Payne was 3-for-4 and drove in a run during Sam Rayburn’s series-ending loss against Lindsay in a Class 2A Region II quarterfinal match-up on Saturday afternoon.
Lindsay (25-6) advances to face Valley Mills in the region semifinals this week.
Luke Titsworth was 2-for-4 and drove in a run, Kade Smith doubled and scored and 12 scored for the Rebels (21-7), who led 2-0 after four innings before Lindsay scored three times in the top of the fifth and twice in the sixth.
In Game 1 on Friday night, Holden Reaves singled and drove in two runs during Sam Rayburn’s 4-3 walk-off loss in eight innings. Payne was 2-for-3, Carson Clark singled and drove in a run and Seth Stephens and Dax Stewart singled and scored for the Rebels.
