A goal by Tristan Van Zant with 27 minutes left gave Sherman the lead, and the Bearcats held on the rest of the way for a 1-0 victory against Wichita Falls Rider in the District 5-5A boys soccer opener for both teams at Bearcat Stadium Friday night.


Van Zant followed up off a cross after the ball was kicked around by both teams in the penalty area.


The Bearcats (3-5, 1-0) will travel to Denton High for a 7:15 p.m. kickoff on Tuesday.


Wichita Falls 7, Denison 0


WICHITA FALLS — Alex Ramirez had two goals and two assists as Wichita Falls beat Denison in the 5-5A opener on Friday night.


Wichita Falls (3-1-2, 1-0) had a 3-0 halftime lead.


The Yellow Jackets (3-7-1, 0-1) have the district bye on Tuesday night before hosting Wichita Falls Rider at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.


Girls District 5-5A WF Rider 9, Sherman 1


WICHITA FALLS — Lourden Bell scored on a corner kick in the first half during Sherman’s district-opening loss against Wichita Falls Rider on Friday night.


Keeley Ayala had a hat trick for Rider (5-4-1, 1-0), which led 3-1 at halftime.


Sherman (3-4, 0-1) will host Denton on Tuesday at Bearcat Stadium at 7:15 p.m.

WICHITA FALLS — Alyssa Mullins scored four goals as Wichita Falls beat Denison in the 5-5A opener on Friday night.


The Lady Coyotes had a 6-0 lead at halftime.


The Lady Yellow Jackets have the district bye on Tuesday night before playing at Wichita Falls Rider at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
