Following a scoreless first 40 minutes of play, Sherman scored twice in the second half to pull out a 2-1 non-district win against Frisco Heritage on Friday evening at Bearcat Stadium in the Bearcats’ final tuneup for District 5-5A play.

The visiting Coyotes scored with 23 minutes left on a hesitation play by the Bearcat defense, but then the Bearcats tied the score on a scrambler by Gaven Dawson. Then Sherman put Heritage away through the hustle of Tristan Van Zant, who blocked a goal kick and outran the defense with a little over six minutes left.

“Our team defense played great creating offensive opportunities,” Sherman head coach Chico Aleman said. “We needed the victory to start district play. A very good team effort.”

Sherman (2-4) opens the 5-5A schedule against Wichita Falls Rider on Friday night at Bearcat Stadium.
