Four Sherman players reached double figures in scoring Tuesday night, but Wichita Falls Rider held off a late Bearcat push to come away with a 70-65 win at Bearcat Gymnasium in a District 5-5A game.


Jaylyn Cleamons led the Bearcats with 19 points, and was joined by Kemonte Dowdy with 18, Rayvon Hester with 13, and Jeremy Norvell with a dozen.


Sherman (16-7, 3-2) trailed by nine entering the final eight minutes, but made a game of it down the stretch before the Raiders prevailed.


The Bearcats travel to first-place Denton High Friday night to end the first half of 5-5A play. Sherman remains in a tie for third place with Denton Ryan, who lost to the Broncos in overtime, with Rider (13-9, 4-1) alone in second place.


Wichita Falls 51, Denison 37


WICHITA FALLS — D’Aundre Barker scored 10 points as Denison closed the first half of District 5-5A play with a loss against Wichita Falls.


Pierce Barker and Noah Burden each finished with six points for the Yellow Jackets (5-19, 0-6), who have the bye on Friday before playing at Wichita Falls Rider on Tuesday.


District 9-3A Gunter 62, S&S 41


GUNTER — Logan Nelson scored 19 points as Gunter defeated S&S.


Brandyn Brewer added 13 points, Nick Gonzalez chipped in eight points and Tyler Scott, Quinten Layman and Zander Turner all finished with six points apiece for Gunter.


Devin Orr had 16 points and Cole Sloan added 13 points for S&S (10-12, 1-5).


Ponder 98, Pottsboro 49


PONDER — Ethyn Snider scored 13 points during Pottsboro’s district loss against first-place Ponder.


Ross Hendrix added eight points and Ty Bates and Carson Rein each finished with seven points for Pottsboro (13-8, 2-3), which hosts Callisburg on Friday night.


District 10-3A Commerce 53, Van Alstyne 49


COMMERCE — Tyler Sperry scored 17 points as Van Alstyne came up short against Commerce in a battle of district unbeatens.


Noah Boling added 17 points and Michael Hensley chipped in 10 points for Van Alstyne (14-9, 4-1).


District 12-2A Tom Bean 89, Valley View 53


TOM BEAN — Noah Boyd had 24 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals as Tom Bean defeated Valley View.


Keoni Puana added 24 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals, Bryce Grier chipped in 11 points and six assists, Blakeston Jones scored 10 points and Tyler Goff totaled eight points and 11 rebounds for Tom Bean (15-6, 2-0).


TAPPS District 2-2A TCS 49, D. First Baptist 43


DALLAS — Blaise Bentsen had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks as Texoma Christian gained sole possession of first place with a victory over Dallas First Baptist.


Marlen Williams added 12 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals, Carson Crow totaled eight points, 10 rebounds and four blocks and Kyle McCarthy scored seven points for Texoma Christian (21-1, 6-0), which starts the second half of district at Dallas Fairhill on Friday.
