Kristen Gittens netted 15 points, including 4-of-4 free throws in the final 43 seconds, to help Sherman put away Wichita Falls, 46-39, in a District 5-5A game Tuesday night at Bearcat Gymnasium.


The win keeps the Lady Bearcats (11-13, 2-3) in a tie for fourth place in a tightening playoff chase headed into Friday’s game at third-place Denison.


Jahmaria Tavie added 14 points for Sherman, which opened up a nine-point lead with 3½ minutes left but had to hold off a Lady Coyote rally.


Gittens also took a charge and Tavie rebounded a blocked shot in the final seconds to help seal the outcome. Gittens finished the night 7-of-8 from the charity stripe and added a pair of 3-pointers.


District 11-4A Melissa 59, Aubrey 36


MELISSA — Krista Butterfield had 20 points and four steals as Melissa defeated Aubrey.


Taylor Carney added 11 points, four rebounds, four steals and two blocks and Taylor Thomas finished with nine points and eight assists for Melissa (11-12, 2-0), which plays at Princeton on Friday.


Celina 63, Anna 37


ANNA — Maci Martin scored 10 points as Celina defeated Anna.


McKinley Wright added nine points while Kylee Terry chipped in eight points for Celina (12-9, 2-0).


Jashell Evans had eight points, Savannah Kendall chipped in seven points and Marianna Bert totaled six points for Anna.


District 9-3A Pottsboro 68, Gunter 24


POTTSBORO — Hatty Shope had 18 points, five rebounds and four steals as Pottsboro defeated Gunter.


Madeline O’Hanlon added 14 points and six rebounds, Riley Westervelt scored 10 points and Haiden Williams finished with nine points, nine assists, five rebounds, five steals for Pottsboro (20-1, 5-0), which closes out the first half of the district schedule at S&S on Friday.


Rylee Hestand scored 13 points for Gunter (8-12, 3-3).


Whitesboro 40, Ponder 36


WHITESBORO — Phoenix West had 13 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists as Whitesboro gained sole possession of second place with a victory.


Clara McCanlies scored nine points, Lauren Purdom chipped in six points and five rebounds, Karlee Schuessler grabbed seven rebounds and Gabbie Case chipped in five points for Whitesboro (14-9, 4-1), which plays at Callisburg on Friday.


Pilot Point 59, S&S 33


PILOT POINT — Meagan Cowden scored 15 points in S&S’ district loss against Pilot Point.


Payton White added five points, 10 rebounds and three assists, Taylor Jackson scored six points and Kaylee Baker grabbed 13 rebounds for S&S (3-19, 0-5).


District 10-3A Van Alstyne 52, Howe 45


VAN ALSTYNE — Madison Reno scored 19 points as Van Alstyne defeated Howe.


Maegan Thomas and Avery Duncan finished with eight points apiece and BreAnna McCaskill chipped in seven points for Van Alstyne (19-7, 3-2).


Peyton Streetman had 15 points while Kamryn Fulenchek and Callie Vick each contributed seven points for Howe (12-9, 3-3).


Leonard 64, Farmersville 38


FARMERSVILLE — Bridget Watson had 22 points and three steals as Leonard topped Farmersville.


Claudia Ware added 13 points and two steals and Alyssa Davis totaled eight points and 15 rebounds for Leonard (14-7, 4-1).

WHITEWRIGHT — Zada Swoopes had 25 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks and three steals as Whitewright defeated Commerce.


Jolie Donaldson added 11 points, three assists and three steals, Jy Johnson totaled eight points and seven rebounds and Zoe Magnuson added seven points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals for Whitewright (22-2, 5-0).


District 12-2A Bells 64, Valley View 44


BELLS — Katie Branam had 27 points, nine rebounds and eight assists as Bells defeated Valley View.


Kinley Ives added 18 points, eight assists and five rebounds, Keisha Arellano scored seven points and C.J. Crane totaled six assists, three steals and three points for Bells (19-4, 2-0).


District 13-2A Blue Ridge 46, Trenton 43


TRENTON — After being held to a single point in the third period, Blue Ridge outscored Trenton 18-5 in the final eight minutes.


Ellery Martin led Blue Ridge (10-11, 1-1) with 11 points, followed by Sydney Elder and Whitney Hall with 10 each.


Rikki Foreman scored 16 points in the loss for Trenton (7-11, 0-2), with Jessica Withrow chipping in with 10 and Bria Green with nine.


Honey Grove 53, Celeste 42


HONEY GROVE — Dee Shaw had 20 points and six steals as Honey Grove defeated Celeste.


Jada Redd added eight points and six rebounds, Shemiyah Finney totaled six points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists and Isabella Morrison grabbed nine rebounds for Honey Grove (16-5, 2-0).


District 22-1A Dodd City 93, Tioga 21


DODD CITY — Paige Granstaff scored 35 points as Dodd City defeated Tioga in its district opener.


Lindsay Carter added 23 points, Fallon Hilliard chipped in 14 points and Abby Weeks finished with eight points for Dodd City (18-3, 1-0).


In district action on Monday night, Tioga defeated Savoy, 58-24, in a make-up game from Friday. Destini Maness had 18 points and 12 rebounds, Carly Hough added 17 points and Andrea Perez finished with 12 points for Tioga, which hosts Ector on Friday.

ECTOR — Sunnie Bingham scored 19 points as Ector defeated Savoy.


Destiny Whitburn added 13 points and Tobi Jones finished with eight points for Ector (11-6, 1-0), which plays at Tioga on Friday night.
