Sherman Residents Invited to Explore School District Operations

Sherman ISD is now accepting applications for a successful new program helping to build greater awareness and understanding of school district operations.

Ambassador Academy is back for a second year to provide parents and community members with a behind-the-scenes look at classroom learning, student opportunities and support provided to students.

Participants will learn about the various aspects of running a public school district – from managing district finances to recruiting and retaining high-quality staff and ensuring safe and secure schools.

“Ambassadors Academy is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about our school system,” said Superintendent Dr. Thomas O’Neal. “It’s a chance to connect in-person for meaningful conversation that builds knowledge and creates a foundation for increased involvement that we hope will benefit our students, teachers and Sherman as a whole.”

Ambassador Academy is free and open to any adult resident or taxpayer who lives in Sherman ISD, though district employees are not eligible to apply. The application is open now through Friday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m.

The program consists of a series of three-hour classes scheduled throughout the school year, along with a graduation celebration in May. This year, to provide greater flexibility, the program will include a mix of daytime and evening meetings.

Sessions will primarily be held on weekday evenings at the Sherman ISD Service Center, 2701 N Loy Lake Road.

A few classes will be held on weekday mornings in order to allow participants to observe student learning and opportunities offered during the school day.
