Springtime means that summer break is almost here! It also means that registration for the 2024-25 school year is just around the corner.
Sherman ISD will host Kindergarten Round-Up on Tuesday, April 2 at all SISD elementary schools. Crutchfield, Dillingham, Fairview, Neblett, Sory, Wakefield and Washington elementary schools will all be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to assist families with the enrollment process.
Children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2024 are eligible to enter kindergarten in the upcoming school year. Families can look up what school their child will attend on the Sherman ISD website by entering their home address. Proof of residency is required to enroll in SISD, along with immunization records and the child’s original birth certificate.
The start of kindergarten is an exciting time for families, and there are a few things that parents can do to help their child prepare for the transition.
Incoming kindergarten students should be familiar with numbers 1-10 and have established morning routines. They should also have small responsibilities and independence with tasks such as using the bathroom without assistance, washing their hands, putting on their own shoes, and putting away their things when finished.
Sherman ISD encourages kindergarten parents to spend time this summer reading to their child every day and to look for ways to get involved at their child’s school when school starts in August. Studies have shown that children are more well-behaved and enjoy being at school more when their parents are involved.
Sherman ISD will host a kindergarten orientation for parents on July 23 at 5:30 p.m., and Kinder Bearcat Camp is scheduled July 24-25 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
