Senior Fishing Festival this weekend at Waterloo

The 32nd annual senior fishing festival at Waterloo Lake will take place this weekend. Entry is $5 for seniors and the fishing begins at 7:30 a.m. at Waterloo Park in Denison.

Participants must be 50 years or older as of Oct. 3 in order to participate.

Sherman Senior Center Coordinator Deena Lowry said this event has become popular for many seniors who enjoy fishing or just time out at the park, and in the past local senior living communities have brought residents in buses for them to be able to participate.

Registration after Sept. 20 will not be guaranteed for attendees wishing to receive a cap. Registration will take place through the morning of the event for those just wishing to participate.

Lowry also said Denison Parks and Recreation stocks the site with fish for this event.

Awards will be presented for fishing and casting contests.

Participants will be able to fish, will receive a cap and a hot dog lunch.

The event is put on by Denison Parks and Recreation and Sherman Senior Center along with a host of local sponsors.

To register by phone, call Denison Parks and Rec at 903-463-4116 or Sherman Senior Center at 903-892-7316.
