Scott Renfro answers questions for commissioner's run off

Two men are still vying for the Republican nomination to the Precinct 1 seat on the Grayson County Commissioner’s Court.

The runoff election between Scott Renfro and Josh Marr will take place on May 28. Early voting is May 20-24.

The winner of this contest will face Democrat Andre Luper in the fall. Renfro and Marr were recently asked to answer three questions for the Herald Democrat.

Renfro’s answers are below.

Q. What is your vision for the future of Grayson County? What changes would you advocate for and why?

My vision for Grayson County is a county that people want to be a part of and proud of. With the growth we have going on, this is a fantastic opportunity for both lifelong residents and future residents. Our housing market is booming along with our industrial growth, and this is a vision I want to keep seeing on the horizon. I want to welcome new ideas and better amenities such improved healthcare, recreational parks, and improvement of county services. We need to attract and retain reputable businesses instead of harmful ones such as the BM Dorchester Cement Kiln. This would be devastating for our county. With my knowledge and experience, together, we can ensure a brighter future and vision for Grayson County.

Q. What do you consider your greatest strengths and weaknesses for the commissioner’s court position?

I believe my greatest strength would be my overall experience. I am the only candidate who has experience running his own successful business for 20 + years and carrying on a 4th generation family business. I have great people who work for me that I’m very proud of that can oversee my operation. I am the only candidate who is involved with his community now serving 14 years and counting on two local school boards. I am the only candidate now serving 19 years on the Grayson County Farm Bureau Board where I have helped fight for property owners on the state and federal levels from Austin to Washington DC. I know what it takes to adopt a budget, set and maintain a low tax rate to be fair to taxpayers. My weakness is having a hard time saying “no” when it comes to helping others.

Q. What do you feel is the biggest challenge facing Grayson County and how can commissioners court impact those challenges?

The biggest challenge I see is our rapid growth and trying to maintain a balance from it. I think our commissioners are working hard to meet those needs and challenges with the help of our economic development corporations. The county school districts, city municipalities, developers and future companies could also work with the commissioners on the challenges that lay ahead. Meeting those challenges without making rash and irresponsible decisions will be beneficial for our counties continued growth and its residents. The commissioners should work as a team and access the issues then plan a solution to move forward. To end with, you need to be prepared to meet those challenges and that is why experience matters!!!!!
