ROBERT (BOBBY) JEFFERSON SLAGLE

1966-2023

Robert Jefferson Slagle (Bobby), lifelong resident of Southmayd, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on January 28, 2023. Bobby was born in Sherman, TX on February 18, 1966, to Bob and Martha Slagle. He is predeceased by his father and uncle, Henry Slagle. Bobby graduated from S&S High School in 1984 where he was a multi-sport athlete and excelled in UIL academics. He later became the proud owner of Slagle & Sons Termite and Pest.

Coach Slagle spent much of his time along sidelines and in dugouts at youth sporting events across Grayson County for decades. Bugsy, as he was known in the poker world, was respected for his table presence and skill, which was only upstaged by his uproarious laugh and storytelling.

He was a fiercely proud father, a devoted son, and a stubbornly loyal brother and friend. Bobby was a bulldog for the ignored and vulnerable members of his community and deeply loved by many. His presence will be missed around north Texas and remembered fondly in the hearts of all who loved him. His stature was small, but his shadow was long.

Bobby is survived by his beloved mother, Martha Slagle, his sons, Jaden (Amy) Slagle and Zachary (Kate) Slagle, his daughter, Kelli Velasquez, his brothers and sister, Andrew (Marina) Slagle and R.C. Slagle and Elizabeth (Yosh) Slagle-Rubenstein, his nieces and nephews Sara (Andrew) Willingham, Aimee Slagle, Lauren Slagle, Andrew Slagle, Seth (Starr) Slagle, grand-nephew Seth Jr., and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4 from 2:00-4:00 pm at Jake’s Place (formerly Calhoun’s) at 4801 TX-91 in Denison, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to one of Bobby’s favorite causes, American Cancer Society or the S&S Youth Sports Association.
