Though it might be hard for some to believe, prom season is just around the corner and finding the perfect dress at a price one can afford can be a special but also stressful time especially if funds are tight.
Luckily, a special group of ladies in Texoma wants to make sure that any young lady attending a school in Grayson County who wants to go to prom won’t be hampered by the inability to pay for the dress.
The Junior League of Grayson County has been holding the prom dress giveaway for years and this year’s event will start with hours from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 19 at The Bargain Box, 418 West Main Street in Denison and continue March 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at 5-9 p.m. Then the store will be event will continue from 5-8 p.m. March 21 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 22.
The Junior League of Grayson County was formerly the Denison Service League which has been providing help for those in need in Grayson County since 1959.
The League is now more than 90 members strong, and they help provide a number of local programs aimed at helping children.
In 2024, the group had over 1,000 prom dresses available. Everything is free: shoes, dress, jewelry, whatever they find.
It is open to girls at every high school in Grayson County, and in 2023, they helped around 250 girls with their prom needs.
Those who received a dress are allowed to make donations but are not required. Anyone who has a gently used formal dress can donate it to the cause by contacting The Junior League of Grayson County by phone at 903-463-2398, or email at denisonserviceleague@gmail.com.
