PHOTOS: Patriot Day ceremony commemorates 9/11 23 years later

Patriot Day was first recognized through a bill noting a National Day of Mourning introduced in October of 2001, the month following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance is held each Sept. 11 and is often marked as a day of volunteering and service. Each year Grayson County honors the day with a remembrance ceremony held at the Grayson County Courthouse. The event hosted by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office is attended by local law enforcement, officials and members of the community. Photos by Michael Hutchins / Herald Democrat
