Peanut Festival coming this weekend

“The friendliest town in West Grayson County” is once again ready to welcome everyone for fall’s biggest festival Peanut Festival. This is the 58th annual Peanut Festival for Whitesboro and this year’s theme is Peanuts in Paris.

This annual salute to the county’s agricultural past brings thousands of people to the small town for all kinds of fun. It features everything from live music to demonstrations of activities like Taekwondo and cheerleading. The event also features an antique car show, a parade and a carnival that lasts for days. Add to that a plethora of yummy food vendors offering everything from popcorn to full meals and one has the perfect way to spend a fall day.

And did we mention shopping? Hundreds of vendors line the sides of Main Street offering practically everything one will need to get ready for the holidays from Halloween to New Years and beyond. It is the best place to shop for presents for even the pickiest person on that shopping list, and festival planners strongly encourage people to bring cash to make those purchases since internet reception can impact vendors’ ability to accept cards.

Those who feel like trying their luck can take part in the truck raffle for a chance to win a 2024 Chevy Silverado. The tickets are $100 each.

The fun starts right smack in the center of downtown Whitesboro at 8 a.m. and continues throughout the day.

The Main Stage lineup includes the following:

9 a.m. Maxwell’s Taekwondo

9:30 a.m. Mayor’s Welcome

9:40 a.m. invocation

10 a.m. the parade featuring the Whitesboro High School Marching band

10: 30 a.m. The Ranch Performance

10:45 a.m. Whitesboro High School Band

12:30 p.m. Blackout Betty

2:00 p.m. World singing day

2:15 p.m. Blackout Betty

3. p.m. Truck Raffle

The carnival starts Thursday night and continues Friday night and Saturday evening as well. Wrist bands cost $30. Carnival parking is in the field to the north of the parking lot behind Tender BBQ (formerly Dickey’s BBQ) in the open field. There will be attendants there to assist in parking your vehicle. Festival organizers ask that drivers please pay attention to the traffic laws when exiting and entering Hwy 377 and be mindful of and attentive to driving. They expect heavy pedestrian presence all three days of the carnival.
