Patti Le Olmstead

1935-2023

Patti Le (Chapman) Olmstead went to be with the Lord on January 4, 2023. She was born on October 26, 1935 in Sherman and was the daughter of Nolene (Simmons) and E.B. Chapman.

She graduated from Sherman High School in 1953. Afterwards, she attended Stephens College in Missouri for one year and then transferred to the University of Texas at Austin.

She was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. She met her future husband, Ellis, on a blind date and married him on August 17, 1957 after graduation from college.

They lived in Dallas for two years where she worked as a secretary for the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. In 1960 they moved to Sherman and started their family. She was a life-long member of Central Christian Church, volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at WNJ Hospital, was a member of the Sherman Service League and Current Review Book Club.

Patti was affectionately known as “Pat Pat” by her 6 grandchildren whom she adored. She lit up the room with her smile and contagious laugh. She was a card game lover, a sports fan (especially the Texas Longhorns), and always down for an adventure with Ellis during their 65 years of marriage. Some of their interests included watching the horse races in Arkansas, fishing in Canada, and spending time at their ranch near Junction, Texas.

Patti exhibited tremendous strength throughout her life as she battled multiple sclerosis for over 30 years. Her spirit was about determination she was determined to overcome her physical challenges; determined to love and serve her family at all times; and determined to win that last game of bridge. Her positive outlook on all things this side of heaven was steadfast.

She is predeceased by her husband, Ellis Olmstead, parents, and sister, Kay (Chapman) Smith. She is survived by her children Kay Ellen Kirby (Kevin), Lee Olmstead (Julie), and Andrew Olmstead (Stacey) all of Sherman. Grandchildren are Emily Kirby of Ft.
